Halloween -a poem by T.F. Burke

HALLOWEEN 

There comes a time on Halloween,

The veil is thin on worlds between,

Scary things break through on this night,

Not of this world, oddities made to fright,

Too scary to see, some may say,

Even the ghosts hide, tucked away,

Evil lurks and evil plays,

Evil sings songs of evil days,

If you see that this night is nigh,

Heed your despair and try to hide,

Believe me now, you're not prepared,

To see the scary of the scary that ever has scared,

It just so happened,

One Halloween night,

A couple of teens decided to risk the fright,

Arms locked in arms,

To steady their way,

To bravely face the evil of this day,

Quietly they crept ,past the sign that say,

Old Ridge cemetery this way,

With trepidation and shaky steps,

To face their fears of the souls that slept,

But on this day, they didn't know,

Spirits hide, so they won't show,

Through the dark with little light,

The things that stir, filled with spite,

Things await they never thought to see,

Ghosts did shudder and demons did flee,

Things so old, they were never named,

Things so dark, their souls were never claimed,

Zombies hid and vampires flew away,

They knew that in this evil, they could not stay,

In the homes surrounding, sharpened pitchforks did lay,

They thought it best to live to fight another day,

As for the teens, if their screams they did hear,

Villagers will not come, petrified by fear,

Because of their eagerness to explore,

Their minds will be tested, against what's in store,

What seemed to be a harmless felony,

Leads to shrouded graves In Loving Memory,

They exchanged soulful glances, decided to see what they could see,

Shadows of evil morbid dances, they were too scared to flee,

When they thought they had conquered, the exit sign just a gleam,

A twig did snap, a cat did scream,

The night has swallowed them up,

An eerie silence and a cloud of steam,

So if you think you're brave, you want to try this out,

To enter a cemetery on Halloween night, because you're not afraid of this night,

As you walk in, you might hear the voices of the teens,

Heed there warnings and you can survive Halloween!
