I've played guitar for about 25 years. At the beginning of the pandemic, I started using social media to make money as a creator. I'm 46 and I'm living with my parents on a tiny attic. When I pick up my guitar, I bang it into my tv. Being in this tiny and hot space has completely stifled my artistic drive.
My original plan was to release my poetry book, set up a tip jar and start a store for my art. I did all that and I thought I would make the money to move out and record my music and make videos. I was hoping to get it set up where I was making enough on the platforms that pay you for views so I could just give my work away for free. It has not worked that way even after I've been trying for five years.
I can't record my music until I get my own place with a little space. Also I need to pay for copyright and set up distribution before I release my music.
Over the next few months I gave another poetry book to release, a few stories and a couple projects I've been working on I need to release. Hopefully, they'll make me enough money to get into a place like a motel or a studio apartment.
All we can do is show up everyday and hope we get a step closer. My dreams aren't that grand, but they've seemed impossible to fulfill. But still I show up and try.
